About the study

The study began in July 2024 with patients at New Hayesbank Surgery, an NHS practice in Kent.

The surgery designed it as a holistic support initiative for perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Each participant took a daily 20g serving of Freja Bone Broth Powder alongside her usual diet and completed feedback surveys over the six weeks.

The areas tracked were:

  • sleep

  • fatigue

  • brain fog

  • joint pain

  • gut comfort

  • weight management

  • skin, hair and nails

The study was observational. It did not include a control group, clinical testing, or independent publication, so the results reflect participants’ self-reported experiences rather than clinical evidence.

The study was run with patients at an NHS surgery. It was not NHS-funded, NHS-endorsed or NHS-published, and this page should not be read as NHS guidance, NHS recommendation or a medical claim.

What the results mean

After six weeks of daily Freja bone broth, participants reported improvements across sleep, skin, hair, nails, joint comfort, fatigue, brain fog and weight management.

Freja gives you protein, collagen-derived amino acids and minerals in a low-calorie, whole-food format that fits simply into a daily routine.

For midlife women, that combination is relevant. Protein supports muscle maintenance and satiety. Collagen-derived amino acids are relevant to skin, hair, nails, joints and connective tissue. A savoury, nutrient-dense serving also replaces weaker choices in the day: sweet snacks, low-protein breakfasts, stock cubes, or products that add calories without much nutrition.

Bone broth is a protein-rich, collagen-rich food you can use daily as part of a normal diet.

Why bone broth, and why midlife women

Midlife changes the demands on the diet.

Muscle becomes harder to maintain. Skin, hair and nails can feel different. Joints may need more attention. Appetite, weight, sleep and energy can become less predictable. Protein, collagen-rich nutrition, satiety and consistency all become more useful.

Bone broth fits this stage because one serving brings several things together: protein, collagen-derived amino acids, gelatine, minerals and savoury satisfaction. It is simple to use and easy to repeat, which is where a daily food habit pays off.

Freja can be drunk as a warm mug, taken as bone broth powder, stirred into food, or used in cooking instead of stock; here is bone broth explained if you want the wider background. It gives you protein and collagen-rich nutrition through the day in a form that feels like food, not another task.

This is why bone broth suited the study group. It does not act on hormones or treat menopause. It supports the diet at a stage where food has to work harder.

There’s more on the wider role of bone broth in our guides for women and across the bone broth benefits pages.

Try it for yourself

The study was simple: one serving a day, every day, for six weeks.

That is the easiest way to start. Choose the format that fits your routine - a mug of Classic Bone Broth, a scoop of bone broth powder stirred into meals, or an instant sachet - and make it daily.

A mug of Classic Bone Broth is the simplest drinking habit. A scoop of bone broth powder stirs into hot water, soup or a meal. An instant sachet suits travel, work or busy mornings.

Give it six weeks and pay attention to how it fits: what it replaces, how easy it is to keep using, and how you feel with protein-rich, collagen-rich bone broth in your daily routine.

Shop bone broth and start with one serving a day.
